Metro Green Line Update
It’s been brought to my attention that there is some confusion about when the next Metro meeting will be.
The next meeting in Redondo Beach will be February 22nd 5pm-8pm at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. Other scheduled Metro meetings will be posted on the Metro website around January 26th as well as the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR).
Another meeting has been advertised for this Saturday, January 21st 5pm at the Great Room Cafe. This is not a Metro meeting, but rather a community gathering to discuss the subject of this Green Line Extension.
Right now, we are awaiting this Draft EIR to get more information about the impacts of each proposed route.
Here is a brief summary of what has been proposed.
The Metro Green Line extension is a proposed project that will connect Redondo with our surrounding Beach Communities. And there are a few options that are currently being discussed as far as location and structure design.
▪️The Hawthorne Blvd placement will be an elevated line running above Hawthorne Blvd, connecting to the new terminus station in Torrance
▪️The Right-of-Way placement will be a light rail running alongside the existing freight tracks, and behind residential homes. It will also feature a new light rail stop which will be close to the existing Bus Transit Center.
The design will either be:
1. Combination of trenched and above grade
2. Completely above grade
This proposed project is currently awaiting a draft EIR which will be released by Metro on January 26th, along with a website update. There will also be community meetings that will allow public comments to be heard and considered. Then the Metro board will likely vote on the route in early summer.
